The Facilities and Capital Projects Department on behalf of the University of Alabama Hospital is conducting the Architect selection process for the renovations required to relocate the inpatient Pharmacy at UAB Highlands and to be compliant with USP 797 and USP 800.

Professional services include construction document preparation, plan review submittals to local and state agencies, bid/contract award and construction administration. If you would like to be considered for this Project, please provide five complete copies of your submission documentation for the Project to my office by the deadline shown. Minority and women-owned enterprises are encouraged to apply. Please include the following items in your packet:

• Letter of Interest
• Resumes of managing architect and proposed team that will be assigned to the project
• Statement of qualifications (include examples of similar projects completed by the firm)
• References from prior clients on similar type projects completed within the past five years

Project Description/Scope:

This Project will relocate and expand the inpatient pharmacy at UAB Highlands. UAB Highlands has continued to see significant increase in ambulatory, inpatient, emergency and surgical services, all of which rely on the pharmacy for daily operations.

The Highlands Pharmacy is currently located on the 3rd floor of the facility and occupies approximately 2,000 sq. ft. of space. New regulatory requirements; namely USP 797 and USP 800 are due to go into effect on December 1, 2019. They require additional space and HVAC capabilities for sterile and hazardous drug compounding. Following an evaluation of the existing location, it was determined that it was not feasible to expand in the existing location. Furthermore, it was determined that there was not enough space above ceiling to make the necessary HVAC modification.

Therefore, the Hospital is proposing to relocate the inpatient pharmacy to approximately 4,500 sq.ft. on the 1st floor of the facility. The existing occupants of the 1st floor will be relocated as part of this project.

The area that will be renovated is approximately 4,500 square feet. The project team has put together a program and a schematic plan. The current construction budget is $1,500,000.
