Pursuant to Alabama Act No. 2001-956 Shelton State Community College solicits qualifications from professionals licensed in the State of Alabama to provide architectural and engineering services to construct an Automotive Technology Renovation and Expansion.

Project General Description: This is an expansion of our Automotive Technology program to meet the standards expected by today’s demanding student population. The program currently has approximately 8600 square feet and it is projected to add an additional 4800 square feet. The budget is estimated at $1,250,000.00. This project will retrofit instructional & lab space, improve lighting, technology, equipment and upgrade fire safety systems. The project will also replace an aging heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. This renovation will allow for an increase in student enrollment and therefore increase in additional income. This program would allow the program to become (NATEF) Certification Compliant-National Automotive Technician’s Education Foundation.

Qualifications: Shelton State Community College will select the most qualified design professionals as outlined in the Manual of Procedures, 2001 Edition, prepared by the Alabama Building Commission. Applicants must demonstrate successful experience in delivering fully integrated facilities and professional services in a functional, economical, and effective manner. Applicants must provide documented success in project cost management, thorough, accurate and timely services and document production.

Recognizing the composition of Alabama’s citizenship, the Alabama Building Renovation Finance Authority encourages submissions from design professionals that represent Alabama firms with diversity in their staffing and proposed project team, including but not limited to, associated design professionals and consultants.

All applicable State of Alabama Building Commission documents and procedures, as well as any other applicable requirements from funding sources, shall be utilized on College projects. Act 2001-955 requires a disclosure statement to be completed and filed with all proposals, bids, contracts, or grant proposals submitted to the State of Alabama in excess of $5,000.00.

Act 2011-535 (Alabama Immigration Law) imposes conditions on the award of State contracts. Those requirements were effective January 1, 2012, for contracts receiving State funds. Firms must agree to fully comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, as amended by the Immigrations Act of 1990, and the Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act. Architects and engineers should review and adhere to these guidelines as appropriate to their project type.
